Super Eagles now focused on 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Nigerian footballer Kenneth Omeruo says the Super Eagles will now focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after their friendly in Morocco.

The Super Eagles played two friendlies against Ghana and Mali as part of their preparation for World Cup qualifying.

Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 and lost 2-0 to Mali in both friendlies.

Omeruo now says the players are determined to give their all to get maximum points when qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup resumes in June.

“We went into the game against Mali determined to win, just like we did against Ghana. In the end, they took advantage of their opportunities and we failed to take advantage of ours. This is football. You just have to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way,” he was quoted by thenff.com.

“Many players in the group have never played in a World Cup and see this as a great opportunity to be there. We cannot afford to disappoint ourselves and the nation.”

The Super Eagles will face South Africa and the Republic of Benin in their next two World Cup qualifying games.

The Super Eagles are yet to win in the qualifiers, having drawn their first two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
