NLC vs. Abre: We don't know about Ejiofor-led BoT – Labor Party
The Labor Party LP on Wednesday denied the existence of the BoT, a board headed by Comrade SOZ Ejiofor.
In a statement issued by the LP's National Public Relations Secretary, Obiora Ifor, Ejiofor, who said he left the party about 10 years ago, was briefed by the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and drafted into the fight to take over the leadership of the party.
The party said Mr. Ejiofor had not attended any meetings or played a prominent role as a member of the party since he resigned as the LP's first national chairman more than 20 years ago.
According to the statement, Ejiofor is not even known within the ward and has not paid a single penny for membership.
The party reiterated its commitment to the just-concluded national convention, in which Julius Habre re-emerged as national chairman.
The statement read: “On Wednesday, the Labor Party LP successfully held its national conference in Nnewi Anambra State, unanimously and overwhelmingly held by over 350 delegates attended by Barrister Julius Abre. Elected with support.
“The list of attendees includes the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, his deputy, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. George Ozodinobi, who heads over 10 members of the National Assembly, all members Mr. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Deputy Minority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Clinton Amadi, led by the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly; He led all commissioners and government officials from Abia State.
“Despite this great success, it came as a big surprise to the party leadership that a statement on behalf of the party board claiming that Comrade SOZ Ejiofor had taken over the party leadership was trending on social media. It was a party.
“It may sound strange, but with all due respect to the former party leader, we sympathize with a comrade who left the political scene over a decade ago. They were just given, briefed and drafted,” said a dissatisfied element in the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC).
“Firstly, since Mr Ejiofor resigned as the first National Chairman of the Labor Party over 20 years ago, he has not attended any meetings or played a prominent role as a member of the party. He is unknown and has not paid a penny of dues to qualify for membership. It is therefore surprising that he suddenly woke up from his sleep after being “visited” by some leaders of the NLC. That's true.
“The important thing here is that Labor does not recognize the existence of a board. Remember that the NLC has continued to propose restructuring the central bank and convening a national conference.
“More than 90 percent of those proposed for membership in the central bank have since left the party to join other political parties, and have taken various political positions on other party platforms. Some contested, while others became prominent in the central bank presidential election campaign.'' Other parties did the same when Labor similarly fielded candidates in the 2023 general election. ”
