Man caught in police custody for allegedly assaulting wife to death in Lagos


The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of a man (name withheld) for allegedly beating his 40-year-old wife to death in an undisclosed matter.

The military spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

Fundain said one of Destiny, who identified himself as the son of Patience Johnson (now deceased), reported the incident to Erere police station on Tuesday.

He said that around 1:40 pm on Monday, he received a heartbreaking call that his mother's husband (whose name has been withheld) had beaten her, injured her and caused her to vomit blood, Destiny reported.

Destiny rushed to see her mother early Tuesday morning, but did not see her husband at home, the command's image creator said.

“Destiny then rushed her mother to Oril Ajuge General Hospital where she was admitted for treatment, but her mother’s husband was later arrested and detained.

“Unfortunately, at about 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, when a police officer of the police station, CSP Smith Olanrewaju, visited the hospital to examine the victim, the doctor on duty said that at about 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, A woman told him that she had released a ghost.

“The body will be transferred to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for autopsy while investigation into the matter is ongoing,” he said.
