Impeachment of Philip Scheib: Panel begins April 3rd


The seven-member committee set up by Edo State Chief Justice Daniel Okunbowa to investigate the impeachment charges against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has fixed a sitting date of April 3, 2024.

DAILY POST reports that the Executive Director of the panel, George Odidi, disclosed this in a statement dated March 28, 2024, which was made available to reporters in Benin City.

Mr. Odidi said the committee will convene immediately at 10 a.m. in the judges' conference room at the new High Court complex in Benin City.

He said it is expected that the parties or their lawyers will be present while the claimant prepares to file the case.

The statement reads: Chief Justice of Edo State. Justice DI Okunbowa stated that pursuant to Article 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the said panel shall commence on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Judges’ Conference Room of the New High Court Complex, Benin City. shall be :00AM prompt.

“Parties and/or their attorneys are expected to be present on the day, and claimants are expected to be ready to present their case on the day.”
DAILY POST reports that the Chief Justice of Edo State, Daniel Okunbowa, on Friday, March 22, 2024, has constituted a seven-member committee to investigate the allegations of impeachment notice served on the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. I am reminiscing about what happened. This is in line with the resolution of the state legislature.

On March 6, 2024, the state legislature served a notice of impeachment against the lieutenant governor on charges of fraud and perjury.

The members of the panel are Justice SA Omonua (rtd), Professor Teresa Akpoghome, Ogogo Ayodele Obias, Surveyor Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aigbokian, Maryam Elakoba Irabbare.
