DHQ makes clarification, says court ordered release of 313 terrorist suspects to Borno government due to lack of evidence

The Defense Headquarters has made a clarification, saying that a Federal High Court in Borno has ordered the release of 313 terror suspects detained by the military.

The Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Buba Edward, said on Thursday, March 28, that the court ordered their release due to lack of evidence to arrest the suspects following investigation.

He further revealed that the cases were prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Ministry of Justice. The DHQ spokesperson said;

“During the week, in compliance with the court order of the Federal Supreme Court of Maiduguri. A total of 313 suspects detained for terrorism-related crimes would be released to the Borno State government.

“The court ordered the release due to lack of evidence after the conclusion of the investigation and other ancillary matters. Accordingly, they would be handed over to the Borno State Government for further action.”
