WASHINGTON – As Haiti suffers from gang warfare, a Christian ministry is working to bring more than 100 Haitian orphans to the United States, but with the U.S. embassy now closed, the fight is proving tough.

Founded by Linda and David Gunter, Love Him Love Them began as a local ministry in the Atlanta area. Today it also serves the people of Haiti.

“We have six different locations,” Linda told CBN News about the mission in Haiti. “We have schools, orphanages, churches. We opened a hospital in the middle of a global pandemic and it's incredible. We are responsible for over 5,000 children.”

She says they have dozens of children willing to come to the United States

“We have 101 children who have already been matched,” she explained. “They adopted families here in the United States. The families here in the US already know the children. The children already know the families and yet because of the events of the last two weeks we cannot get them out.”

The problem is the paperwork.

“We followed the rules,” she said. “And yet we can’t get the last piece of paper out. Why can't we get it? They closed the embassy. So we can’t go to the embassy to get the final stamp.”

She is asking anyone who is willing to sign the petition on her website.

She also encourages people to write to the U.S. State Department, Port-au-Prince Adoption Services and lawmakers in Washington.

The aim is to get the government's attention and convince them to take action on behalf of these children.

“We just need to make some noise.”
