Oil theft: NSCDC arrests 3 suspects in Anambra
Three suspects have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Agency, NSCDC, on suspicion of oil theft and paraded in Anambra State.
The suspects were transporting 1,625 liters of adulterated diesel, also known as motor diesel oil, at Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects are Okechukwu Okeke, 28, from Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area, Emeka Chukwuma, 34, from Akili Ozizor in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, and Ifunanya Ike from Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State. The suspect, 29, was arrested on Thursday. March 28, 2024, along Yasutani Road.
The state commander, Olatunde Maku, who paraded the suspects at the state command headquarters, said the suspects were arrested by the joint operations team of the command anti-vandalism squad led by ACC Chinenye Chinweze and the Nigerian Navy.
He said the suspects were transporting the products in two shuttle buses. One was a white bus with plate number Anambra AWK 429 XY and the other was a gray bus with registration number Anambra GDD 277 XB.
He said the suspects would be arraigned after the investigation and vowed to intensify the fight against crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering and black market extortion of petroleum products in Anambra State.
The NSCDC chief appealed to the public to support the command in its renewed efforts to eradicate illegal oil refining activities in the state and to provide information on illegal oil bunkering activities in its territory. went.
He said: “This arrest was made possible with the cooperation of the Nigerian Navy and preliminary investigation revealed that the illegally refined products were loaded into Ogbakuma, both bound for Okoti community in Ogbaru district.” Stated.
