1. Access Holdings CEO Herbert Wigwe is feared killed in a helicopter crash in California. He was reportedly on board with about five others, believed to be his wife, son and the group chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, when the helicopter crashed.
2. As inflation accelerates in the country, cement prices have increased by 100% in three years to an all-time high of 7,000 Naira. According to the findings, cement prices were between N3,300 and N3,500 in Lagos and Ogun states in March 2021, but have soared to between N6,500 and N7,000 in both states as of last week.
3. Rashidat Shittu, a 400 grade student of Kwara State University, Malete in Moro Local Government Area, reportedly committed suicide over his academic performance. According to her colleagues, the deceased committed suicide by ingesting pesticides ahead of her next exam.
4. Two persons have reportedly been killed and three others injured after a Toyota Camry vehicle without number plates fell into the Iju River along Ota-Idiroko Road in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. The incident happened on Saturday.
5. Officers of the Nigeria Police Intelligence Directorate-Intelligence Response Team have eliminated several suspected kidnappers, including the kingpin, Musa Wada Magaji alias Sabo, in the Mpape area of Abuja. The killing of the bandits followed a raid on Mpape's hideout by police.
6. The Pentecostal Fraternity of Nigeria (PFN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of security emergency as the blood of innocent Nigerians is everywhere. Christian organizations lamented the protracted security situation ravaging the country, citing incidents of banditry, kidnappings and murders in Plateau, Ekiti, Benue and Kaduna states, among others.
