An NFL coach and several players decided to glorify God by demonstrating their faith in the divisional playoffs over the weekend.

After leading the Baltimore Ravens to their first AFC Championship game in 11 years with a 34-10 win over the Houston Texans on Saturday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh decided to end his postgame press conference by reading a verse from the Old to open a will. He chose to read 1 Chronicles 29:11 to give God all the glory.

“I just want to get started. This was told to me before the game and it's just meaningful to me, so I'm going to share it with you,” Harbaugh told the assembled reporters. “Because I think it’s the right thing to do.”

“It is a verse. 'Greatness, power, glory, victory and honor are yours. For everything in heaven and on earth is yours. The kingdom is yours, Lord. You are the head and ruler of all,” he read.

“There's an incredible spirit on this team and I just want to give credit and glory where it's due,” Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh, 61, has been open about his Christian faith. The Daily Caller called him: “A fellow soldier of Jesus Christ.”

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens

Several other prominent NFL playoff stars are also choosing to flaunt their confidence in front of millions of viewers.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was caught on camera praying with a teammate before Saturday's game against the Texans.

According to movieguide.com, Jackson praised God after the Ravens' win over the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 4.

“I just thank God for giving me the health to play,” he said after the game. “I should have started the press conference by thanking God… In the last two seasons I couldn't fight with my team. I had to do it from the sidelines and just cheer the guys on. But I'm grateful for the opportunity.”

Jackson, a devout Christian, gave some advice to young people in an exclusive interview The prodigy show podcast last spring.

“You have to keep God first,” he said. “Pray to God, and you must be in harmony with God. It's not like making a wish, like seeing a shooting star and just wishing for something. You have to be consistent when you pray to God… It's Him.” I will answer our prayers.

The Ravens quarterback told Sports Spectrum in 2019 that his secret to staying humble is to praise the Lord.

“I give Him all His praise, His glory and all His honor for who I am,” he told the outlet. “I could have done anything. It's crazy. I'll think about it and talk to him all day, like, 'Man, I appreciate you, thank you.' Because when you feel like you are bigger than the Lord, all success dies. He disappears.”

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was also seen praying in a nationally televised moment on CBS before Sunday's game with the Buffalo Bills.

The image of Mahomes kneeling in prayer was shared on social media.

Mahomes has spoken about his Christian faith in several interviews and postgame press conferences.

When asked about his Christian faith before the Super Bowl last year, the Kansas City quarterback said his faith influences his entire life, not just football, according to KMBC-TV.

“My Christian faith plays a role in everything I do,” Mahomes said. “I mean, I always ask God to guide me in the right direction and let me be who I am in His name. He plays a role in everything I do, and of course it will be on the big stage of the Super Bowl.” That he gave me and I want to make sure I glorify him in the process.”

He later told Sports Spectrum about his ongoing spiritual growth.

“I feel like my faith has grown over the last few years, and I think that's given me a better sense of who I am and why I play the game,” Mahomes said. “It eases a little bit of the pressure of playing a football game because I know I'm on the football field to glorify Him above all else. So it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about going out there and doing the best I can on his behalf.”

Brock Purdy and the 49ers

Before Saturday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was interviewed by former 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young.

Purdy told Young during the interview, which was posted on the 49ers' YouTube channel, “My identity is not in football.”

“I know who I am and ‘God, if you want me to do great things with (football), great. If not, let's do something else, wherever you need me,'” he said. “That allowed me to not put so much pressure on myself. It allowed me to play freely. It’s allowed me to live my life and keep things simple.”

“It’s all God. He has a plan bigger and more beautiful than I could ever imagine.”
