NFF reportedly agrees to hire local coach to replace José Peseiro

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has agreed to appoint an indigenous coach to succeed Jose Peseiro as head coach of the Super Eagles.

According to a report by Complete Sports, the NFF executive committee and the technical committee met on Sunday, April 28, to deliberate on the Super Eagles coach vacancy.

“They both agreed to appoint a local coach for the team.”

“NFF is expected to reveal new coach this week.” The report adds.

Former team coach José Peseiro left his position after his contract expired at the end of February.

The Portuguese led the West Africans to second place in the 2023 African Cup of Nations, in Côte d'Ivoire.

His former assistant, who is also a candidate for the role, Finidi George took charge of the team for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali last month.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face South Africa and the Republic of Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
