Mr. Kwara: Police on escape from Niger ensure safety of residents
The Kwara Police Command has stepped up security measures and deployed additional personnel to key locations following recent jailbreak incidents in neighboring Niger State.

The command said it was working closely with relevant agencies to ensure safety and security in the state.
“On April 24, 2024, a severe rainstorm occurred during the night, causing extensive damage to part of the Medium Security Storage Center in Suleja, Niger State, and 118 prisoners escaping.
“According to a report by the Nigeria Correctional Service Officer, ACC Abubakar Umaru, damage to the boundary fence due to heavy rains facilitated the escape.
“Following this incident, the Nigeria Correctional Service immediately initiated recapture procedures and has so far successfully recaptured 13 of the escaped inmates. Cooperation efforts with security agencies continue.
“As a neighboring state, the Kwara State Police Command is fully aware of the security implications of such incidents and the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, said the force is on high alert and working closely with relevant agencies. We have ensured that we are committed to safety measures to ensure the safety and security of our country.
Mr. Ejire Adeyemi informed that CP Olaiya assured the public that appropriate measures were being taken to thwart any attempt by the escaped inmates to invade or cause harm in the state.
“Patrols along the border areas have been intensified and surveillance in vulnerable locations has been intensified.
“We appeal to all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to your local security agency.
“Together, we can maintain peace and security in our communities.
Olaiya added: “I would like to assure the public that the Kwara State Police Command remains committed to its mission of protecting lives and property and stands ready to respond swiftly to any security challenges.”
Ejire Adeyemi said the command and control room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and urged residents to call either 07032069501 or 08125275046 if they notice any suspicious persons or movements.
