Mr. Ihedioha, the only Labor Party member to visit Governor Otti after leaving PDP
Former Governor of Imo State, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, called on Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
DAILY POST reports that Mr Otti is the only governor elected on the platform of the Labor Party.
In a post via X on Monday morning, Ihedioha shared photos from his visit to the Government House in Umuahia.
“It was my pleasure to meet my esteemed brother and friend Governor @alexottiofr at his residence in Isiaranwa. We had a cheerful discussion while applauding his great strides in Abia State.” wrote the former governor.
This came days after Mr. Ihedioha resigned as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Imo State governor, in his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Mbutu Ward in Abo Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, said there was a mismatch between his personal beliefs and the current trajectory of the main opposition party. .
Despite his decision to quit the PDP, he expressed his dedication to promoting democracy and good governance in the country.
According to him, he has been a member of the party since its founding in 1998 and has made significant contributions to the growth and evolution of the party.
However, he lamented that recent developments within the PDP have deviated from its core principles.
He expressed concern over the party's inability to enact internal reforms, adhere to its own regulations and effectively oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Unfortunately, recently the party has taken a path that is at odds with my personal beliefs. Unfortunately, despite my attempts to offer advice, the party is no longer willing to reform within the party.” , enforce its own rules, or voice any credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
“Based on the above, I have no choice but to tender my immediate resignation from the People's Democratic Party.
“While this decision was difficult, I believe it was the right one. Despite this resignation, I will always offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria. ” the letter added.
