Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road: FG begins demolition of affected land

The Federal Government has begun demolishing lands whose rights of way will be affected by the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road.

The Minister of Labor, David Umahi, disclosed this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Orji Uchenna, in Abuja on Sunday.

Mr Umahi said the project would be a major milestone in President Bola Tinubu’s “New Hope” roadmap for economic diversification.

“The federal government is passionate about the plight of our people and, in exercise of its right of way, will put a face on the demolition of land needed to make way for the construction of the coastal highway,” he said.

“The federal government is considering the most economically viable way to open the coastal road without major damage,” Umahi said.

“Therefore, the payment of compensation to affected property owners will not be delayed. We therefore ask for your cooperation in scheduling the demolition exercise.

“We are making some adjustments and are committed to staying within the coastline.”

Mr. Umahi called on those affected by the demolition exercise to accept it as a sacrifice for the ultimate impact of the project for the economic prosperity of the nation.
