Lagos begins health screening for 2024 Hajj pilgrims
The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board will tomorrow begin conducting medical examinations and vaccinations for pilgrims scheduled to perform the 2024 Hajj. The board’s secretary, Mr Saheed Onipede, disclosed this in a statement from the board’s communications department over the weekend.
He said that while medical personnel from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) conducted tests on the pilgrims including diabetes, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis B and pregnancy tests, officials from the Port Health Service (PHS) of the Federal Ministry of Health said it would test pilgrims. You will receive vaccines against polio, meningitis, and yellow fever.
The review, which will be conducted on a council basis, will begin from Tuesday, April 30th at 8am every day and conclude on May 9th, 2024 at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas Mosque Hall, GRA Old Secretariat, Ikeja.
According to the schedule, pilgrims from Agege, Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry and Mushin local governments are to be tested and vaccinated on Tuesday, April 30th. The order for Ajeromiifelodun, Eti-Osa, Kosofe and Oshodi-Isolo will be May 2nd. Meanwhile, Alimosho, Epe, Ifako-Ijaiye and Lagos Mainland are scheduled to hold the event on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Pilgrims from Apapa, Surulere, Ikeja and Lagos islands will be vaccinated on Tuesday, May 7th. The turn for Shomol, Ojo and Ikorodu islands will be on Wednesday, May 8th, while all remaining pilgrims will be accommodated on Thursday, May 9th. 2024 respectively.
The statement added that collection of results and examination by doctors will also take place simultaneously at the venue. Onipede urged pilgrims to be available for testing, warning that pilgrims who fail to appear for testing will lose the opportunity to perform Hajj rituals in the state.
He also said that the training will help them know about their health conditions and give doctors an opportunity to prescribe appropriate medicines and effectively manage them during their stay in the holy land.
Similarly, the Board, through their respective coordinators, has started distributing two types of Ankara (Aso Shrimp) to those intending to make the pilgrimage.
Mr Onipede said one of the fabrics will be worn during the one-day seminar at Debre Roof, Lagos Television (LTV) Ground, Ikeja and on departure to Saudi Arabia, while the second type will be worn on departure to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said it would be. After completing the haj ritual, he traveled back to Nigeria.
