From APC to Hubala: Test your popularity and hold LG elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Rivers State Governor Simiminirai Hubala to test his popularity by holding local government elections in the state.
The APC said part of the resolutions reached at the peace conference convened by President Bola Tinubu over the political crisis in Rivers State was to hold local government elections.
The APC also said the expression of support for Tinubu by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was hypocritical.
It will be recalled that members of the defunct PDP Presidential Electoral Council in Rivers State on Thursday expressed support for Mr. Tinubu and Mr. Hubala.
The group was led by former National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and former Executive Secretary of the PDP Campaign Council, Dr. Abiye Sekibo.
However, Rivers State APC Chairman Tony Okocha, speaking at a press conference on Friday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said the undeniable fact is that all PDP elements remain supporters of Mr. Atiku.
Mr. Okocha said, “While governors in states like Lagos are at work, our state holds Thanksgiving every week. Each of these Thanksgiving services attracted 150 million people. What value did it bring us? We would not use national funds to fund such a charade.
“Let him go to the local government elections. He should test the waters. He has been governor for quite some time. That was one of the eight resolutions we agreed with the president.
“Why do they want to further insult the President and the APC by saying that he, the leader of the APC, appointed bandits to his cabinet?
“When did they repent and withdraw their case in court and challenge the president’s authority to mediate the political crisis in Rivers State?
“Have they repented of emboldening Governor Hubala to disrespect the President by refusing to implement all indicators based on the eight-point presidential declaration as a panacea to the political crisis in Rivers State? Has his actions continued to further agitate the political crisis?
