FG declares March 29th and April 1st holidays to celebrate Easter

The Federal Government has declared Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, 2024, respectively.

The Honorable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the statement on behalf of the Federal Government, urged Christians and all Nigerians in general to emulate the sacrifice and love shown by Jesus Christ in dying for the redemption of man.

According to the Minister, Easter, in addition to its religious meaning, promotes values of love, forgiveness and compassion that are essential for social cohesion and harmony. He appeals to Christians to imbibe these virtues as they are capable of having a positive impact on the socio-economic development of Nigeria by promoting unity, reducing conflicts and encouraging cooperation among Nigerians.

He further urged Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity to help alleviate the material conditions of the less privileged among them. This, he said, is in line with Mr. President's Renewed Hope Agenda.

While wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blessed Easter celebration, the Minister also appealed to Nigerians to join hands with the administration led by President Tinubu in its determination to bring about sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all .
