EPL: Klopp reacts as Xabi Alonso downplays Liverpool's job

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reacted to the decision not to replace Xabi Alonso at the Premier League club.

Alonso was tipped to be Klopp's replacement at Anfield.

But on Friday, the former Reds midfielder confirmed he would remain at Bayer Leverkusen.

Klopp said he understood Alonso's decision not to move this summer.

He said: “I can relate to the fact that young managers are doing great things at their clubs.

“I did the same thing and I never regret it.

“Xavi is doing a great job at Leverkusen. Maybe he will keep the team together this year too, but that doesn't always happen.

“I know he wants to do that.”
