EFCC arrests four suspects in Kaduna
The four suspects were arraigned by the Kaduna Area Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice AA Bello of the Kaduna State High Court in Kaduna.
They were charged with obstruction of justice and assault on commission staff.
The suspects are Ruqaya Ahmed Mustafa, Sadiya Usman Mohammed, Ameera Usman, and Nafisat Usman.
They were charged with one separate charge bordering on obstruction of justice.
The charges against Sadiya Usman Mohammed are as follows: “It is said that you, Sadiya Usman Mohammed, on or about April 15, 2024, deliberately obstructed the officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) within the jurisdiction of the Kaduna State High Court.” carrying out an official function (lawfully arrested at 13 Jafar Organizer Street, Rigachukun, Kaduna), thereby contravening Section 38(2)(a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004; committed a crime. Punishable under section 38(2)(b) of the Act. ”
With all four suspects pleading not guilty to the charges read out to them, the prosecution lawyer, KS Ogunlade, prayed for a trial date to bring witnesses to court and asked for the defendants to be remanded to Kaduna Correctional Center. .
Justice Bello remanded three of the suspects to Kaduna Correctional Center, while Sadiya Usman Mohammed, a nursing mother, was remanded to EFCC custody. He adjourned his case until May 2, 2024 for hearing of his bail application after hearing all his lawyers.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of obstructing officials of the EFCC's Kaduna command during their attempts to arrest Hadiza Usman, who had several times jumped bail and evaded serving of arraignment.
The four suspects openly attacked the Commission's operatives in an attempt to effectuate their arrest, assaulting three of them, dragging and pulling their uniforms, and attacking the collarbone of another operative and the left hand of another. Each one bit.
Despite the confrontation between the suspects, the officers maintained discipline and professionalism, subduing and arresting the suspect without any violence.
