Comedian Russell Brand announces plan to be baptized after sexual assault allegations were exposed

British comedian and actor Russell Brand has announced plans to be baptized to 'put the past behind' after sexual assault allegations were exposed.

The controversial comedian, 48, took to Instagram this week to say he was embracing his Christian faith after a difficult year.

Last year, a Dispatches documentary on Channel 4 exposed allegations of sexual assault during the height of his fame, as part of an investigation by The Sunday Times and The Times.

In October 2023, Russell faced serious allegations from a series of women, including rape and sexual assault, when four women came forward with allegations. The comedian vehemently denied any wrongdoing and says he has evidence to refute the accusations.

Announcing his planned baptism while speaking in a video in his garden, Russell said: 'This Sunday, I'm going to take a chance. I am being baptized.

'What was explained to me is that it is an opportunity to die and be reborn.

An opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in the name of Christ.'

He then referenced a verse of scripture, adding, “As it says in Galatians: that you may live as an enlightened and awakened person,” before saying that the prospect of baptism was “so inviting and beautiful.”

He went on to explain his decision: 'People are so cynical about the growing interest in Christianity and returning to God, but to me it's obvious.

“As meaning deteriorates in the modern world, as our value systems and institutions crumble, we have all become increasingly aware that there is this hauntingly familiar awakening and beckoning figure that we have all known our entire lives. life, within us and around us.

“And for me, it's very exciting.”

The media personality also said he was “thinking about doing it in the River Thames” but recently researched that the river contains high levels of E. coli.

“I may be leaving the sins behind, but I could be catching some pretty serious viruses.”
