Zamfara government confirms over 3,000 redundancies, resolves outstanding tips of 2.3 billion naira


The Zamfara State Government has announced that it has identified 3,079 retirees to pay outstanding gratuities that were not paid by the previous government.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Bala Idris, a total of 1,746 state and local government pensioners have received payments worth N2,312,841,065.08 in two installments.

Verification of state and local government pensioners is underway, the statement said.

The second ex-gratia payment for confirmed pensioners began on Friday, March 1, 2024.

“A total of approximately 682,226,470 Naira (682,000,226,470 Naira 38 Kobo only) has been paid to a total of 413 confirmed pensioners from the state.

“The second round of payments to confirmed pensioners from local governments has also commenced. A total of 403 confirmed pensioners from local governments, amounting to N449,667,142.08 (449,000,667,000). 142 naira and 8 kobo only) are being paid.

“Of the 3,079 confirmed pensioners, 1,746 received benefits in two installments from both the state and local government. The total amount paid so far is N2,312,841,065.08 (2,031,200,84 (only 11,650 naira and 8 kobo).

“The process of verifying and authenticating retirees is still ongoing and retirees are being paid,” the statement said.
