Xabi Alonso reveals who will replace Boniface when he heads to AFCON

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has said Pariku Sik could replace Victor Boniface if he leaves for January’s African Cup of Nations.

Boniface is expected to be called up to the Super Eagles for this tournament.

Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi is set to undergo surgery, with the 22-year-old almost certain to be in the final squad.

Boniface will be absent from Leverkusen, where he has been in good form since joining in the summer.

But Alonso remains relaxed in the face of Boniface’s absence.

“The tournament will be held from January 13th to February 11th. Let’s see how it goes.

“Patrick is in good spirits and strong. He keeps us in no hurry,” he said in a quote reported by Sport Bild.

Schick, 27, missed the Die Werkself match due to injury but returned to training this week.
