Widow charged with attempted murder after stabbing home intruder

A 27-year-old woman, Faith Nyanchama, is on trial for attempted murder in Kenya.

She was accused of trying to kill Filbert Nzoyisaba on December 2, 2023.

It is alleged that the man broke into Faith's home in Kaloleni estate in Nairobi at 2am on the fateful day.

Nyanchama, who is also a widow, revealed to the police that she was woken up by a loud bang at the door and before she could find out what was going on, Nzoyisaba had already managed to enter the house.

Faith stabbed the man twice in the head and abdomen.

She later threw away the knife, picked up her son and ran to the nearest police station to report what had happened.

She told the court that the man, Filbert Nzoyisaba, who managed to force his way into her house was a total stranger to her, which provoked her reaction.

The police who arrived at the scene after the report detained her because they were unable to find the weapon used, however, neighbors rushed the man to the nearest hospital.

Nzoyisaba's brother rushed to the scene and discovered that his brother was already in hospital and had since been transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.

Faith denied the allegations while appearing before Makadara Magistrate Court principal magistrate Irene Gichobi and was released on 300,000 shillings cash bail.

The police have not yet recorded Filbert Nzoyisaba's statements as he is still unable to speak.

Meanwhile, photos of his injury will be used as evidence in the prosecution's murder trial.

The matter will be heard on January 9, 2024.
