Wheat cultivation: FG warns against sale or diversion of dry season raw materials
The federal government has warned farmers not to sell or divert agricultural inputs from the 2023 dry season.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made the call at the official closing ceremony of the 2023 dry wheat development season under the National Agricultural Growth Plan (NAGS-AP) in Jigawa State.
He said dry season farming was an integral part of the National Agricultural Growth Plan and Agro-Pocket (NAGS-AP) project, made possible by the $134 million loan facility extended to Nigeria by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Stated.
Sen. Kyari said the current administration is determined to expand the capacity of farmers across the country to engage in the cultivation of key staple crops such as rice, maize, cassava and wheat.
According to him, “Farmers are well supported with a 50% input subsidy aimed at significantly reducing food inflation and Nigeria’s dependence on foreign imports while increasing domestic consumption.”
He urged farmers to take advantage of the support to achieve their goals.
“From planting to harvest, we are monitored. We want to meet you in the field, not bring information to the market,” he said.
The Minister directed the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC and other security agencies to monitor the distribution of the products to avoid diversion and subversive activities that could undermine the programme.
