West Ham mention Sanusi transfer in January

West Ham United are rumored to be interested in signing Nigerian left-back Zaidu Sanusi from FC Porto in the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham are working hard to sign a new left-back ahead of the start of the winter season.

Aaron Cresswell almost left the Hammers in the summer, but former Chelsea defender Emerson will also be at the London Stadium.

Team Talk reported that Hammers scouts were keen on a number of potential options and one player who impressed was Sanusi.

The Nigeria international has been with Porto since 2020 and is attracting attention from West Ham, including technical director Tim Steiten.

Coach Steiten is believed to have had high praise for the player for some time.

Sanusi has only just returned from injury but has played in Porto’s last two games, with West Ham representatives understood to be in attendance.

The 26-year-old previously played for little-known Portuguese club Santa Clara, scoring seven goals in 118 appearances for Porto.

He has also earned 15 caps for Nigeria since making his international debut in 2020.

He missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe due to injury.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles look forward to welcoming Sanusi to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

However, he will have to compete for the Super Eagles’ left-back position with the likes of Jamil Collins, Bruno Onyemaesi and Ola Aina, who play the role at times.
