Unexecuted water projects: Minister summons erring contractors

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Goronyo, has invited contractors in Adamawa State for questioning who did not carry out the projects for which they were paid.
The Minister, who was in Adamawa State on Friday to inspect a water project, said on his arrival in Tarum, an agrarian settlement in Adamawa South Sheren Local Government Area, despite the alleged allegations made by the contractor. I was shocked to learn that the project to install a pump station in the area has not been implemented. I had the impression that I had been beaten.
Goronyo, who took the long walk through the bush to inspect the Tarum pumping station project, told reporters in Yola late at night that he needed to meet one-on-one with the contractor about his failures. .
“I called the contractor to meet me at my office in Abuja on Monday regarding the project,” he said.
According to him, “The federal government is doing everything in its power to ensure that projects are completed according to specifications. There is no way that someone would raise money for a project and not execute it. In the morning, I has taken pains to visit every project site, no matter how difficult, we will see every project completed and delivered to the people of Nigeria. ”
According to the minister, the Tarm pumping station project was contracted to American West African Agro for NOK 128 million.
As part of his visit to Adamawa State, the Minister of Water Resources inspected Kiri Dam. Kiri Dam is a 615m cubic facility built in 1982 to provide irrigation water to Numan’s sugar refinery, now known as Dangote Sugar Mill after the war. Dangote Group acquired his in 2002.
The minister was also present at the Yola County Headquarters and told Governor Ahmadu Fintiri that President Tinubu’s administration is determined to maximize water resources, especially irrigation to increase food production.
Governor Fintiri responded by vowing to always cooperate with the federal government in the interest of the people.
