UCL: Arteta confirms new injury ahead of lens collision

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Fabio Vieira has undergone groin surgery and is expected to be out for several weeks.

Vieira was absent from training ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game against Lens.

Arteta revealed the 23-year-old is currently facing a time-out on the sideline.

The Portuguese midfielder missed Arsenal’s Premier League game against Brentford at the weekend due to suspension, but was expected to return against Lens.

“We have a problem with him. He feels a little uncomfortable,” Arteta told reporters.

“He wasn’t improving so we sent him to a specialist. The advice was to have surgery so he had the surgery yesterday. We thought he was going to be out for a few weeks. Expect.”
