Two people go to court on charges of stealing generators and building materials

Emmanuel Chukwuebuka, 23, and Olufemi Bayode, 28, were arraigned at the Ado Ekuti Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for stealing generators and building materials worth NOK 720,000.

The defendants, whose addresses are unknown, are charged with two counts of conspiracy and theft.

Prosecutor Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the defendants committed the crime at about 11am on November 12 in Ado Ekiti.

He said the defendants stole Emmanuel Durojaie’s property: white cement, 70kg of filler and a Tiger generator, all worth NOK 720,000.

Oriyomi further stated that the defendants conspired to steal the goods while working at the site in Durojaiye.

According to him, the offense violates sections 302(1)(a) and 421 of the Ekiti State Penal Code 2021.

Prosecutors asked the court to adjourn so they could examine the case file and present witnesses.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The defendant’s lawyer, Mrs. Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant him bail with an undertaking to attend the trial.

Chief Justice Bankole Oluwasanmi granted the defendants bail in the amount of NOK 80,000 each with one surety of the same amount.

He then adjourned the case until January 17, 2024 for hearing. (South)
