Troops neutralize 10 bandits and rescue 9 kidnap victims in Katsina and Zamfara

Troops of Joint Task Force Operation North West HADARIN DAJI (OPHD) neutralized 10 terrorists, rescued 9 kidnapping victims, recovered weapons, ammunition as well as communication devices in Katsina and Zamfara states.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement on Thursday, January 4, 2024, said the feat was recorded in the recent dry season clearing operations commanded by the General Officer Commanding 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Mutkut.

“Notably, on January 3, 2024, the combined troops of the OPHD conducted an offensive operation on identified terrorist enclaves in Batsari and Safana LGAs of Katsina State, neutralizing 10 of the terrorists while others fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.

“Troops also recovered 1 AK-47 rifle, ammunition, 7 Danish weapons, 3 locally manufactured weapons and other dangerous weapons, as well as communication devices, mobile phones and military uniforms, while 4 motorcycles were recovered and destroyed at the scene.

“Similarly, on the same day, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI operating in Zamfara State, conducted a search and rescue operation in Dansadau and Dandalla villages in Maru LGA of Zamfara State.

“During the operation, 9 kidnapped victims were rescued including; 5 women and 4 babies. The victims were abandoned by the terrorists who fled after a gun duel with the resilient troops. The rescued victims were immediately reunited with their families in Magami.

“Commander of the Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI Joint Task Force, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the efforts of the troops and urged them to maintain the momentum.”
