EPL: Why Chelsea concede so many goals - Pochettino

Transfer: Chelsea offer £52m for Broja in exchange for Ronaldo's teammate

Chelsea are reportedly working on signing Antonio Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal team-mate from Benfica.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are said to be willing to offer £52m and Armando Broja as part of a deal for Silva, who Ronaldo had previously wanted from Manchester United.

According to a report in The Sun, the Blues have their sights set on the 20-year-old defender following his impressive performances at Benfica.

Chelsea are looking for a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva and believe Silva is the ideal replacement for the veteran Brazilian centre-back.

Benfica manager Roger Schmidt recently insisted the club would not allow him to leave in the January transfer window, citing Silva amid growing interest in the player.

“We will not let Antonio Silva leave. It's mid-season, but Benfica have big goals,” Schmidt said.

“He is happy with the club, so this issue is over.”
