Tragedy of car ramming into young man at Ondo New Year Carnival


Tragedy has struck in Ikare Akoko, the North East headquarters of Akoko, when a vehicle crashed into a crowd during the New Year carnival, claiming one life.

The incident occurred in the Okela axis of the ancient city, and two other people were injured and are currently being treated at an undisclosed hospital.

The victims were said to have been among those participating in the cannibal procession.

The accident vehicle was identified as a J5 bus that was passing through the town.

An Okada rider who claimed to have witnessed the accident claimed that the driver was speeding and crashed into the queue of mostly young people.

An Okada rider who simply gave his name as Kunle added that youths from Olokerede in Ekan were marching in procession from Ekan to Okela, the designated venue for the carnival, when the incident occurred.

“The Ekan lads were heading towards Okela when the J5 encountered them. The person driving the car actually rammed into them at speed.”

The Force Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ikare Akoko, Lopo Alabi, disclosed that the force’s members usually provide services to people who inform them of such incidents.

He claimed that the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
