Tinubu’s new hope agenda working in Abuja – Wike insists
Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has insisted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “New Hope” agenda is working in the capital.
He said the 7.3-kilometre Gaba-Toklo road and the 5-kilometre interim access road from the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) to AMAC's old Keffi Road, also known as Sabri Road, which is underway in Bwari Regional Council This is what he said during his visit:
Mr Wike acknowledged the challenges posed by the difficult terrain of Bwari Regional Council and the recent security threats associated with it, adding that the ongoing construction of the critical Gba-Toklo road gave the council hope. He said he was back.
He also promised that a 5km interim access road from the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) to AMAC's old Keffi Road would be completed this year. This road caused great excitement when it was announced that it was completed.
The Minister said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “New Hope” agenda will ensure that the impact of governance is felt not only in the FCT city center but also in the rural areas.
He said the FCT administration is currently constructing local roads in all six regional councils to ensure the provision of basic infrastructure facilities to residents of these areas.
“I am very pleased to be able to say that the New Hope Agenda is working, especially as it relates to regional councils.
“A New Hope's agenda is not just for cities. It's also about making sure people in rural areas feel like they're part of the government,” he said.
“We are here in Sabri, which is under the jurisdiction of the Abuja City Regional Council, and you can see the work being done. We came here to start this project. I could see the enthusiasm of the people.
“The performance of the contractors has been very good and by the grace of God, all the projects, especially the six projects of the six regional councils, are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
“Also, it does not prevent us from starting infrastructure work in regional councils in 2024 as we have promised.
“Frankly, all of us will understand that the A New Hope agenda is not just theoretical; it is in practice. I would like to sincerely thank Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief for giving me the opportunity to be a part of his administration and for the tremendous support he has given to the FCT administration.
“That's why I can say we are very happy and there are signs that everything we started will soon be completed.”
