Tin Can Island Port Customs hands over $54,330 in Tramadol bribes to EFCC

Comptroller General Dera Nadi, Customs Area Manager, Tin Can Island Port Command, has reiterated Comptroller of Customs Adewale Adeniyi’s zero-compromise stance on corruption.
Nnadi said this recently when he handed over a $54,330 bribe to the Lagos Area Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Commander, Michael Wetkus.
The shipment of tramadol was falsely declared as electronic goods worth more than 856 million naira and customs officials were offered cash.
He said the act was in clear violation of Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Act, 2023 (NCAA) and commended the police officers for performing their duties ethically and lawfully in the interest of national security.
He further called for continued compliance on the part of port users, reminding them that the NCS will continue to work with sister agencies like the EFCC to deter criminal activities at ports.
Mr. Nnadi expressed his gratitude to Auditor Oloyede, who he said achieved the seizure under his watch and described him as a good example of NCS.
He said the two suspects arrested in connection with the two containers are currently being investigated by the National Food and Drug Administration and Control Agency, NAFDAC, for possible prosecution.
While handing over the cash, Wekas said the feat was a victory for the country and all security agencies. He particularly praised the NCS personnel who achieved the horror.
Mr Wetkus also praised the Auditor-General’s award of commendation to six customs officials who did not succumb to pressure or inducement from owners of illegal drugs.
He pledged continued cooperation between the EFCC, NCS and sister agencies. According to him, the days of working without collaboration are over.
