“The militants must be neutralized”

Billionaire businessman Elon Musk met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, November 27, in Israel, where the pair visited kibbutz Kfar Azza, one of the Jewish communities attacked by Hamas militants during the cross-border attack on October 7th.
After visiting the site of the violence, Musk viewed a video documenting some of the atrocities that occurred, according to a conversation between the two men later broadcast by X.
Musk said it was shocking to visit the site and disturbing to see the joy on the faces of Hamas militants as they killed innocent people.
“It is obviously one thing for civilians to die accidentally, but it is another thing entirely to revel in the joy of killing civilians. …That’s bad,” Musk said.
Musk also rejected arguments that Israel disproportionately killed civilians in Gaza, saying the Hamas militants’ actions were intentional.
“There is an important difference here: Israel tries to avoid killing civilians,” Musk said.
The trip comes as Musk faces widespread criticism for his decision to loosen content moderation on X.
Since the Hamas attack on October 7, anti-Semitic content has increased by more than 900% on the platform.
Musk was also condemned by the White House for indicating support for an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory in X, a move that US authorities called an “abhorrent promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred”. Several major advertisers left the platform after their ads appeared alongside pro-Nazi posts.
Musk did not address these allegations in his conversation with Netanyahu on Monday, but said it was necessary to “stop propaganda that convinces people to commit murder.” The militants must be “neutralized”, he added.
Also on Monday, Musk reached an “understanding in principle” with Israel to operate SpaceX’s Starlink satellites in Gaza, according to Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, but only with Israeli approval.
