The average price of 5kg cooking gas in February was 6,154.50 Naira – NBS
According to the NBS National Bureau of Statistics, the average price of 5kg of cooking gas rose from 5,139.25 Naira recorded in January 2023 to 6,154.50 Naira in February 2024.
NBS made this disclosure in its February 2024 “Cooking Gas Price Watch” released in Abuja on Saturday.
The report states that February prices represent an increase of 19.75% compared to the prices obtained in January 2024.
According to the agency, the average price of 5kg of cooking gas increased by 33.78% year-on-year from N4, $600.57 recorded in February 2023 to N6, $154.50 in February 2024.
Analysis of state profiles revealed that the report revealed that Lagos recorded the highest average price at N6, 820.00, followed by Imo at N6, 785.71 and Anambra at N6, 750.00.
Meanwhile, Yobe recorded the lowest price at N4,912.50, followed by Kebbi and Adamawa at N5,350.00 and N5,385.00 respectively.
A zone-wise analysis showed that the South-East recorded the highest average retail price for 5kg of cooking gas at N6, $616.57, followed by the South-West at N6, $513.30.
“The North Central region recorded the lowest average retail price of N5 at $723.02,” NBS said.
NBS also said the average retail price for refilling 12.5 kg of cooking gas increased by 28.33 percent month-on-month from N11,735.72 in January 2024 to N15,060.38 in February 2024.
According to the report, the average retail price of 12.5 kg of cooking gas increased by 46.88 percent year-on-year from N10,253.39 recorded in February 2023 to N15,060.38 in February 2024.
According to the State Profile analysis, Ogun recorded the highest average retail price at N16,375.00, followed by Delta at N16,333.33 and Edo at N16,321.43.
Meanwhile, the lowest average price for 12.5 kg of cooking gas was N13,167.50 in Bauchi, followed by N13,562.50 and N13,610.00 in Katsina and Yobe, according to the report.
Zone-wise analysis showed that South-East recorded the highest average retail price of N15 N954.60, followed by South-South at N15 N943.40.
According to the report, the Northeast recorded the lowest price at 14,035.88 Naira.
