The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, has called for an immediate investigation into an intelligence report into illegal activities by some men in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, on Thursday in Abuja.
The minister ordered the investigation while reacting to comments by Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Christopher Musa, who appeared before members of the House of Commons on Tuesday.
According to the CDS, some prison officials conspired with inmates to finance the activities of proscribed terrorist organizations.
Mr. Tunji Ojo reacted, condemned the unpatriotic act and directed the NCoS Commander-in-Chief, Khalil Nababa, to investigate the disturbing allegations.
The minister called for a swift investigation to uncover the truth.
He added that any police officer responsible or complicit in the obstruction of services and thus the security of the country will face the full wrath of the law.
Mr. Tunji Oshiro also assured the public that efforts are underway to reform services in line with international standards to enable prisoners to be truly rehabilitated.
He added that this would be in line with President Bola Tinubu’s “Agenda of New Hope”.
“The days of talk but no action are over. A regime with renewed hope will not accept violations from any official.
“We have national interests to protect and that comes before anyone else’s interests,” he added.
