Sumaila exposes Senator's monthly salary of 21 million naira, I was proven innocent – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has said his claim on the monthly salary of Nigerian senators has been confirmed.

The statement came after Senator Sumaila, who represents Kano South, disclosed that senators receive N21 million per month for operational expenses.

Sani said Sumaila confirmed that the monthly alert amount was N21 million and not N1 million as claimed by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The social commentator, in a post on his handle “X” on Wednesday, said: “RMFAC refuted my statement yesterday but I was vindicated by Senator Kawu Sumaila who confirmed that the monthly alert is not 1 million naira but 21 million naira. Make your own mind up RMFAC.”

According to DAILY POST, Sumaila in an interview with BBC Hausa service on Wednesday said a senator’s monthly salary is 21 million naira.

“My monthly salary is less than one million naira. After deductions, it comes to a little over six hundred thousand naira.”

“Given this increase, in the Senate, each member will receive 21 million naira per month for operational expenses.”

However, Sumaira said he earns $1 million as a monthly salary.
