‘Stop embarrassing Nigeria with fake news’ Defense Minister Mattawalle warns troublemakers

Defense Minister Bello Matawalle has warned groups and individuals seeking to stir up trouble in Nigeria to desist from such acts for their own benefit.

Matawalle gave the warning on Friday at the flag-off ceremony of the 2023 Naval Staff Annual Maritime Inspection Exercise in Port Harcourt.

“I would like to warn groups and individuals who promote violence by spreading fake news and hate propaganda to desist from such actions. We do not accept any sexual behavior or behavior.”

Responding to the high frequency of fake news and hate speech aimed at stirring up discontent, Mr Matawalle directed security chiefs to remain vigilant and take action against those caught.

“This country is a democracy. Any action that could undercut that will not be tolerated,” he added.

“The president should be respected by the people. That will give his government the courage to do what it takes to make this country great. “We will not tolerate any kind of behavior,” the minister warned.
