Special Assistant on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to desist from their campaign of defamation and intimidation against the judiciary. did.
Mr. Onanuga made this demand in a statement in Abuja on Monday in response to Mr. Atiku’s recent criticism of the country’s judiciary.
“The spokesperson of the PDP and its defeated presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, in separate statements, expressed alarm at the headwinds.
“They violated the integrity of the judiciary and made wild and defamatory allegations against President Bola Tinubu.
“Following the poor performance of some of the party’s elected governors in the Court of Appeal, the PDP, the former vice president and his spokesperson have attempted to impose their anguish on President Tinubu and his key arm, the judiciary. “The Nigerian government is blatantly desperate,” he said.
He continued that by shifting the blame elsewhere, Atiku and his supporters failed to show that they had thought seriously before making the accusations public.
He called on Nigerians to reject false accusations by the PDP and its candidates that Tinubu corrupted the judiciary and suppressed the opposition during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.
He also urged the people to reject claims that Mr. Tinubu intended to appoint his supporters as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to impose a one-party state on the people.
Onanuga stressed that Tinubu is a staunch democrat who has never interfered with court decisions.
