Sports Minister praises Super Falcons' WAFCON qualification

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Hainaut, praised the Super Falcons for qualifying for the 2024 African Women's Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to be held in Morocco.

The Minister said the team showed great levels of determination and teamwork, achieving important wins in the qualifiers and cementing their place in the prestigious WAFCON.

He praised the amazing efforts of the Super Falcons to showcase the country's strength on the continental stage.

“The fact that our Super Falcons have qualified for the African Women’s Cup of Nations is a testament to the dedication and talent of our outstanding players.

“Their outstanding performance reflects Nigeria's rich sporting tradition and unwavering commitment to excellence,” he said.

Hinoh emphasized the importance of women's football in Nigeria and highlighted the pivotal role played by the Super Falcons in inspiring young athletes and fostering a culture of inclusivity and sporting excellence across the country.

“Through their hard work and dedication, the Super Falcons have not only secured a place in this prestigious tournament, but have also inspired a new generation of aspiring female footballers.

“Their successes resonate across disciplines and serve as a beacon of hope and strength for young women in our country,” he added.

The Minister reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to supporting the team and other national teams.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Tuesday that nine-time champions Nigeria's Super Falcons defeated the hosts 2-1 in the final round of the qualifying series, winning 7-1 on aggregate.
