A clash between some army and police personnel in Adamawa on Tuesday night left one soldier injured and a police officer killed.
The injured soldier was allegedly shot in the leg by a policeman who was part of a patrol team at Target Junction in Yola.
Some soldiers then stormed the police headquarters in Yola around 11pm and there was said to be a heavy gunfight.
The soldiers then retreated as residents fled for safety, fearing an attack by Boko Haram.
The Adamawa Police Commissioner, Afolabi Babatola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Command Spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Wednesday.
Mr. Babatola said Inspector Jacob Daniel was killed in the shooting and warned that “attacks against all security personnel in the line of duty, under any pretext, will no longer be tolerated.”
He further said that such unwarranted disputes will be dealt with strictly in accordance with existing laws.
The CP appealed for calm and assured that both security agencies are taking all legally possible steps to deal with the situation.
When contacted, the brigade commander, 23rd Armored Warrant Officer Bridget, said. General Gumbo Mohammed said the unrest was caused by the shooting of soldiers by some police officers.
NAN gathered that the affected soldier was shot in the leg and was later rushed to the Federal Medical Center Yola for treatment.
