Senate calls for national cooperation to combat violence against women in Nigeria

The Senate Committee on Women’s Affairs (SCOWAS) has called for national cooperation to eradicate violence against women and girls in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Ireti Kingibe, made this call at the launch of Orange Nigeria.

This project is committed to building a society free from the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV).

Kingibe said this ground-breaking project aims to address the root causes of GBV through collaborative efforts, emphasizing inclusivity, education and community engagement.

Speaking at the project’s launch, she said the initiative aims to empower individuals to stand up to violence by fostering open dialogue.

She said: “This project is not just a Senate initiative. It is a national call to action.

“We must come together to create a society where everyone feels safe, heard and valued,” Kingibe said.

The Senate and SCOWAS are calling on citizens, grassroots organizations, and corporate partners to join us in this transformational effort.

Together, they aim to eradicate gender-based violence and build a future where principles of equality and respect prevail.
