Rufai admits Super Eagles goalkeeper crisis, seeks support

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai has admitted concerns over the team’s goalkeeping situation.

Current number one Francis Uzoho has come under heavy criticism following the three-time African champion’s poor performance in recent matches.

Udinese shot-stopper Maduka Okoye, once the team’s first choice, also struggled to muster confidence when selected.

Rufai, one of the best goalkeepers from Africa, was aware of the situation but called for a team-wide response.

“Yes, we have a goalkeeping problem, but we are not without quality goalkeepers,” the 60-year-old told BBC Sport Africa.

“They must have courage, they must be strong and they must not be demoralized by criticism. The whole team should rise to this situation.”
