Rivers Crisis: Hubala slams Wike for insinuating that Opogbo is not Ijaw

Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubala has slammed those who claim that Opogbo are not Ijaw.

Hubara, who spoke during a meeting with Kalabari Regent Charles Princewill and other representatives of the Kalabari Kingdom at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, said “Ijaw is not complete without Opobo.”

Nyesom Wike, a former Rivers State governor and currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said at a reading lunch in Port Harcourt that some people have hinted that the Opogbo people are not Ijaw.

Wike’s comments came amid heightened tensions in the political space in the state with the state House split into two factions and attempts to impeach the state governor, an act many say was orchestrated by the FCT minister. people are criticizing.

Hubala, who is from the Opobo lineage of the Ijaw tribe, spoke to the Kalabari regent and other representatives of the Kalabari kingdom and dismissed insinuations in some quarters labeling him a non-Ijaw.

The governor said such people were unaware of the history of Ijaw struggle in the Niger Delta.

He stressed that the Opogbo people were involved in the Ija struggle, which made him a true son of the Ija people.

Fubara said: Hubara is not a core Aija, and Hubara is a middling Aija.

“Ijaw is not complete without Opobo. Therefore, those who are providing you with such information should go back to their history classes.

“You cannot talk about the Ijaw struggle without mentioning Opobo, Bonny and Kalabari. At that time, we had our own trade lines.

“And when you capture the trade line, it means you are a true Ijaw man.

“So, for the record, I’m a purebred Ijaw to the core.”
