Rivers APC rejects new interim chairman Okocha

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has maintained that its newly appointed interim chairman of the party, Tony Okocha, is not a member of the party.

The Public Relations Secretary of the APC in the state, Darrington Nwawuju, made the assertion on Saturday during a feature on Channels TV.

He said this whole thing was in response to the leadership crisis rocking the party in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that the National Working Committee of the ruling APC on Friday inaugurated members of the caretaker committee of the Rivers branch of the party.

Eric Nwibani was appointed secretary of the seven-member interim committee, while Okocha assumed the chairmanship.

However, during the interview, Mr. Nwawuju alleged that Mr. Okocha worked against the party in Rivers State during the last election.

he said: “What I am telling you is that the person at the top of the list of the management committee is that he is not a member of the APC. Tony Okocha left the party and joined Magnus Abe against the party. .

“Everyone in Rivers State knows that this man has never campaigned for any APC candidate in Rivers State.

“So how can someone who worked against the APC come back to lead the APC now?

“Which APC will he lead? It is not about the person Tony Okocha, it is about the legality of Ganduje NWC’s actions.”

The party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, at the inauguration of the committee, urged the state to be handed over to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
