Retired Abia civil servants receive accumulated pensions.

Many pensioners in Abia State have confirmed reports that pensions set aside by the previous administration in the state have been paid.

According to the Abia State government, the pension payment obligation was from 2014 to part of 2023.

Addressing the congregation at Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC) in Aba on Thursday, Governor Alex Otti said, “Some of you (pensioners) have been in debt since 2014. “As of the end of today (Thursday, March 28, 2024).” ), everyone will be smiling. Please check your account after the close of business today. ”

In his address to the people of Abia, he also promised to clear the accumulated pension arrears by the first quarter of 2024.

An inspection carried out by DAILY POST on Thursday evening confirmed that the state government had paid the pension.

Some of the pensioners, including Mrs Lucy Samuel Ng, Mr Onyema Agbandu and Mr Kalu Ogbonna, said they had received warnings from the bank.

The overjoyed retirees thanked Governor Otti for the payment, saying he had kept his campaign promise.

The pensioners accused previous administrations in Abia, especially the most recent administration, of rough treatment.

Mr. Emeka Okezie, Chairman of Concerned Abia Pensioners, who regularly led protests against the former Abia State Government, could not be reached for his reaction at the time of going to press.

However, some pensioners told DAILY POST on Thursday night that they had not yet received their credit information.
