Protests continue in Kano over Court of Appeal ruling despite warnings



Despite warnings from police authorities, residents of Kano state took to the streets in and around Kano city yesterday to denounce the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal that removed Governor Aba Yusuf.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has learned that the state capital has been arrested following the issuance of contradictory Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the Appellate Court affirming the prayers of both the appellant and the respondent in the controversial governorship election. In what appeared to be an organized action, crowds of protesters stormed strategic locations yesterday, disrupting commercial activity.

Kano/Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road near Muhammadu Buhari Interchange, Kantin Kwari (Kano Textile Market) by hundreds of youths demanding justice for Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Occupied.

The protest followed a police warning against any protests.
The Kano State Police Command had called on residents to ignore demands for market closure and street protests against the Court of Appeal’s ruling that sacked Governor Yusuf.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Hussein Gumel, yesterday at a press conference in Kano warned that the police will deal with those and groups inciting trouble.

He said the command received information about unpatriotic national plans to stir up trouble in the name of gathering for special prayers.

“It has also been found that some people are circulating letters on social media demanding closure of markets and other commercial activities in the state,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Gumer as saying that the same group is using social media to send negative and “harmful” messages to the police and other security agencies regarding the ongoing peace efforts in the country. I told him I was trying.

He urged residents to not hesitate to report any individuals or groups disseminating any information that could lead to violence to the nearest security forces and “demand immediate action.” .

However, after several hours of peaceful protests, the city returned to normalcy.
