Protesters shut down Chevron facility in Delta


Protesters shut down Chevron’s Escravos Gas to Liquid (EGTL) project in Delta State.

The facility was shut down on Tuesday by angry protesters in Ugborodo area of ​​Warri South local government area, who accused the company of allegedly not implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and other demands.

The protesters were asking Chevron to implement Ikpere-HCDT in accordance with the agreement with NUPRC, among other demands. They also complained that “superintendents are now employing family members to replace unemployed natives.”

Some protesters accused Chevron of following the rules and regulations of their host communities, while others accused Chevron of “only using 2019/2020 sector workers for ongoing repair and maintenance.” Some argued that they cannot be employed.
