The countdown in Washington, DC is on as the National March for Life begins in just two days.

Thousands will flock to the National Mall on Friday for the 51st annual march aimed at making abortion “unthinkable” in American culture, despite weather forecasters predicting snow.

“We come and march. There is no sacrifice too great to march for the greatest human right and cause of our time,” March for Life President Jeanne Mancini told CBN’s Faith Nation.

The march took place a year after the Roe v. Wade of the US Supreme Court in 1973, which established a nationwide right to abortion.

This year's march is the second since the Supreme Court overturned the Roe ruling in June 2022.

Mancini said pro-life advocates are still celebrating the big victory but are aware there is a battle ahead.

“It is a solemn moment, but we are all aware that there is still much to be done,” she said. “There is so much confusion in our culture about abortion. And that's really the case [about whether] abortion [is] good for women – and spoiler alert, it’s not.”

“It’s never good for women and it’s never good for the baby. We have a lot of work to do to change hearts and minds and educate on this issue,” Mancini added.

She points out that the Supreme Court's upcoming review of a case involving access to mifepristone is the next big abortion battle for the pro-life movement.

“Chemical abortion was originally approved in 2000. And that approval was rushed, flawed and politicized. And partly because of that authorization, there's a lawsuit…What the Supreme Court is really taking up now is the issue of mail-order chemical abortions,” she explained.

Mancini continued: “Being pro-life means being pro-women, and it means above all being committed to women's health, and the reality is that chemical abortions are much harder on women and of course the life of the child, but it is four times harder than surgical abortions. The idea of ​​performing chemical abortions by mail is not the best thing for women’s health and is downright dangerous.”

The theme of this year's march is “With Every Woman, For Every Child” and is intended to challenge abortion and promote “the beauty of life from the moment of conception,” highlighting pregnancy centers and maternity homes that support women and families in need during and after pregnancy.

“There are over 3,400 of these collection centers and homes in our country,” Mancini said.

“In the most recent year available, 2022, these locations provided over $358 million in resources to women facing an unexpected pregnancy in their families. These include things like shelter, healthcare, diapers, formula and food,” she added.

Mancini emphasized: “The heart of the pro-life movement is mothers and children, and we want to showcase that.”

Speakers at this year's march on Washington include U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship with his wife Cathe, and former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson.
