Political crisis in Rivers: Ijaw group urges Wike to make peace with Hubala

The Ijaw National Congress Worldwide has called on the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to reconcile with Governor Simini Alai Hubara for the sake of peace and prosperity.

The group expressed dissatisfaction with political issues in the state, particularly between Mr Hubala and his predecessor, saying it would always stand on the side of truth and good government.

This was stated in a statement issued by the Chairman of the group, Professor Benjamin Okaba, and made available to journalists in Akure, Ondo State on Sunday.

In a statement, the group commended the people of Rivers State for rising up against the alleged planned impeachment of Mr. Hubala and encouraged Mr. Wike not to destabilize the current government in the state.

The statement read: “We call on all political actors in Rivers State to fulfill their duty to their constituents and immediately refrain from any further acts that may defame the sanctity of the office, institution or person of the Governor to the entire people of Rivers State. I am urgently calling on you to stop this.”

“We especially appeal to Chief Nyesom Wike to change course from inciting any kind of division against the government of the day in the name of protecting his own ‘institution’. This political structure should not be confused with Governor Tomihara’s government structure as an organization controlled by no one.
