Police to investigate Akwanga LG chairman abduction case

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced that it is investigating the abduction of Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman Safiyanu Isa-Andaha by armed men.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ramhan Nanser, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Tuesday.

The PPRO announced that the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, mobilized his personnel to chase down the hoodlums and safely rescued the kidnapped chairman and another person.

A police spokesperson said they received information that the chairman and one other person had been abducted from Ningo village in Akwanga LGA at around 8:30 p.m.

“Police, in coordination with other security agencies, are currently tracking down the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council president and the other victim.

Mr. Nansel therefore appealed to the public, especially those in villages in the area, to provide the police with any useful information that could lead to the rescue of the kidnapped people and the arrest of the perpetrators.

Haruna Kassim, Special Adviser (SA) on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, and close aides of the LG president also confirmed the incident.

SA said the LG boss and one Adam Kasmut were abducted at around 8.30pm on Monday at Ningo village in Akwanga.
